Headquartered on the island of Oahu, and with service centers located across the state, the Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) is the most experienced health plan in the state, covering more than half of Hawaii’s population. HMSA, an affiliate of BlueCrossBlueShield, was founded 76 years ago by a group of social workers and nurses to provide health insurance for plantation workers in the state of Hawaii. Today, HMSA is a non-profit organization with 1,600 employees and serves approximately 700,000 members across Hawaii.
